Green Enchilada Sauce is made for smothering! It is perfect for smothering your burritos, enchiladas, or served with any Mexican dish! This recipe makes about 2 cups cups of Enchilada Sauce
1cupsSalsa Verde (green salsa *mild, unless you want more heat
17 oz. candiced green chilis, with the juice*mild, unless you want more heat
1tsp cumin
1/2tspsugar
1/8tspchili powder
salt to taste, add AFTER the sauce has simmered/reduced down
Instructions
Mix all ingredients except the salt, in a medium sized saucepan or skillet. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced down slightly (cooked out) and the sauce has thickened a bit.
Salt the enchilada sauce to taste, and mix well.
Smother over enchiladas, burritos or any Mexican dish.
Notes
You can use Medium or Hot green chilis or Salsa Verde if you want the sauce with more heat. You can also use a combination of mild, medium and hot to your liking!If you use this sauce for my Fast and Easy Chicken Enchiladas, make a double batch of this Green Enchilada Sauce.
