Old Fashioned Chocolate Sauce is made with 5 simple ingredients! It is easy to make and is rich, creamy and perfect for ice cream sundaes!This recipe makes about 1.5 cups of sauce and will make about 6 (1/4 cup) servings.
6tbspsalted butter*if using unsalted butter add 1/4 teaspoon salt with the butter
1/4cupevaporated milk*or 2% milk or whole milk or water - see notes
1/2tspvanilla extract
Instructions
In a small to medium sized saucepan, add all of the ingredients. Heat on medium-low heat. Stir or whisk the ingredients as the mixture heats. Let it come to a slow simmer (with tiny bubbles) and let it cook until the sugar is dissolved, and it's smooth (about 2 minutes).*The sauce will be thin at first but will thicken as it cools.
Serve over your favorite ice cream, cakes cookies, cheesecake or any other dessert!
Notes
If using unsalted butter, make sure to add 1/4 teaspoon table salt to the sauce.See the blog post above to read a bit more about using milk, evaporated milk or water.This sauce will keep up to a week in the fridge. Make sure it's sealed in an airtight container. Reheat the sauce in the microwave or on the stovetop. If it's too thick when you reheat it, add more water to the sauce when you reheat it.
