Tips for Making Easy Peppermint Dip

Here are a few tips to make this Candy Cane Dip.

  • Make sure your cream cheese is softened, at room temperature, so it will mix in well and not be lumpy.
  • I use a hand mixer to mix this dip. A stand mixer can work too, or you can even mix it by hand.
  • If you do not want a strong peppermint taste to this dip you do not have to add the peppermint extract. You can add crushed candy canes only to the dip and that will give the dip a subtle peppermint flavor.
  • Make sure you mix the cream cheese and powdered sugar first before folding the cool whip into the mixture. Make sure the cream cheese is mixed in fully and its smooth.
  • If you are making this dip ahead of time you may want to wait to add the crushed canes so they don’t soften in the dip.
  • You do not have to add red food coloring to this dip. You can keep it white and it will looks cute with the crushed canes in the dip!
  • Top the dip with more crushed candy canes for serving so it looks festive.
  • You can make this candy cane dip ahead of time. Store the dip in the fridge. After the dip has sat in the fridge the texture will be a bit different. Just give it a good stir and it will be fluffy and right back to how it is when its freshly made.

This dip can be made in advance, just store it in the fridge and give it a good stir when you are ready to enjoy it.

You can store this dip up to 5 days in the fridge. The crushed canes in the dip will soften and the color will bleed into the dip as it sits in the fridge. Just stir the dip when you are ready to eat it. You can also add more crushed candy canes as needed to the dip.
